Kite House
“When working on my tractor, near the access road, occasionally cars stop and ask if this is a winery and open to the public - my answer full of pride: No, it’s our home.”
Some Dreams Take Root in Unexpected Places
From San Diego to Long Beach, a pilot searched the coast for a home, but nothing felt quite right. Expanding his search inland, he discovered Temecula’s wine valley—a quiet landscape that sparked an idea: to build a home surrounded by a vineyard.
Though he knew nothing about winemaking, he envisioned building a home, planting a vineyard, and learning the craft along the way. His search led him to a hilltop parcel with fertile soil and stunning 360-degree views—an ideal setting for both a vineyard and a dream. When he invited us to visit the site, Hector arrived early and found himself standing in the exact spot where the vision had first taken shape. It was the start of a collaboration filled with planning, designing, wine tasting, and bringing a dream to life.
The result is Kite House—a modest yet striking home that soars above the landscape. Designed to stand apart from the traditional homes nearby, it features a steel-supported roof and continuous glass, creating an immersive experience of living above the vines.
Today, the pilot-turned-winemaker still takes to the skies for a living, but his passion for tending a vineyard keeps him happily grounded.
